SwellFuel update March 2008

Hi, here's an update on our progress at SwellFuel.

Our 100 watt buoys, which we manufacture ourselves, are available for testing and research projects. Please understand that these are not to be used commercially or be resold, and there is no warranty, explicit or implied. Our large 5000 watt buoys will be available later in 2008, and will be manufactured by an outside company. Orders for prototypes are being filled and shipped this year to Norway, UK, El Salvador, India, and Fiji, as well as New Orleans here in the U.S. Specifically in El Salvador, we are working with a power company who is performing ocean testing.

We have three established customers, and have found several unique uses for the product. They are:
    providing electricity for fish cages
helping water move through oyster reefs
    coral reef restoration
    ultrasonic algae control
We are also contemplating a version for providing electricity to sailboats.

What is our direction? It would be great to think that we could solve all of the world's power needs today. Realistically, however, no one in the industry has been able to move that quickly, as it takes years of developing, testing, and marketing to produce the final product. It makes more sense to start small, in remote locations, perhaps for a hotel or pier needing electricity.

I realize that marketing is a critical component, and I apologize for not having provided more frequent updates. Please check the website often, as we are always adding new information, pictures, and videos. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

Chris

P.S. Click on the link below to see a picture of the newest prototype.
Projects

100 kilowatts is the goal for each device. They are designed to be the lightest and most powerful per square foot of flotation in the ocean energy converter class. Many ocean energy converters use very heavy ballast weight making it hard to get the devices in and out of the water during servicing (that was the first hard lesson we learned in our ocean energy prototypes). Keeping the weight down is important to reduce the initial cost and make installing and servicing as easy as possible. Swellfuel has several projects collecting data around the world but is not able to expand on the details. We believe we will have power to the grid within four years. We have stayed self funded and solely owned to keep progress moving very quickly, and we always have are ears open to new ideas and relationships. The Swellfuel device is very powerful, simple to build and easy to install. The survivability is the highest of all the 30 prototypes we have built and ocean tested. There...

AIR PUMP IN FLOAT

                                 Patent pending U. S. PTO 11/513805

AIR PUMP IN A FLOAT

This is not the patent application. It is a description of the invention.

This is the float that compresses the air to convert ocean energy. The rod6 that comes out of the bottom of the float attaches to the grid or beam11. The wait of the beam11 pulling on the float compresses the spring19 that is attached to the top of the rod6. As waves and trofts move over the float they lift and drop the float which activates the gear rod12 that activates the air compressor33. The air comes through the snorkel36 on the top of the float. The compressed air goes through a hose to the beam and then on to storage ball.
There is a bellow2 on the rod6 where the rod inters the float to make the float watertight and a sheild31 to protect the bellow from fishing hooks. The pressurized air will travel through the rod to the grid so there are no exposed hoses. The linkage from the gear rod [rack] 12 to the air compressor33 will be a ratio that makes the air compressor turn many times with a small movement of the gear rod. The float should compress air in as little as a 1ft wave or troft.

OCEAN WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER

U. S. Pat. 7,245,041 Ocean Energy converter. This is a brief description of the invention. This very simple tool will act like a 100 piston motor. The floats hold the beams suspended about 60ft below the ocean surface. The wait of the beam creates a heavy load that compresses a spring in the floats, the beam or somewhere in between. As waves and troft pass by the floats they have to redistribute the wait of the beams back and forth between floats. Fig. 5 and Fig.4 The beam is very heavy, the heavier the better. The floats hold the beam have springs in them. In water that has no waves, the springs in the floats will be pulled down about half way. As waves pass over the floats the spring will compress even more and as the float falls into the troft behind the wave the spring will unload the tension even more than what it is in flat water. The floats will trade off holding the weight of the grid. Some floats...

ENERGY FARMING

70% of the world’s surface is undulating up and down with enormous buoyant force; it’s a shame that we do not use it to make electricity.

Can you imagine a day that we are willing to use the renewable energy that has been here all along? This system just hangs from the surface of the ocean and activates as the floats transfer the heavy weight of the ridged grid of beams back and forth as the waves pass over. The float has a rod on the bottom that moves in and out of the float as the float pulls harder and then releases. The movement of the rod activates an air compressor pump inside the float. The pump pumps pressure into the ball. The ball stores the air pressure to be used to make electricity. The balls pressure can be used by transporting it in pipe lines or towing the ball to a generator platform. At the generator platform the balls would be hooked to a long cable system like a ski lift and slowly moved along towards the platform.
The whole reason for storing the pressure in the ball is the ocean energy is very powerful but not consistently, where are needs for energy is predictable and consistant. Storing the air pressure will make this a more reliable source of energy [ocean energy].
